The Standards You Set Determine the Relationships You Get

By Damon8 min read

You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are and what you tolerate. Raising your relational standards is one of the most powerful moves a man can make.

The quality of your relationships is a direct reflection of the standards you hold — for yourself and for others. Men who tolerate disrespect, dishonesty, and dysfunction in their relationships do so because somewhere, they've decided they don't deserve better. That decision needs to be reversed.

Setting standards isn't about being cold or demanding. It's about being clear. Clear about what you value. Clear about what you will and won't accept. Clear about the kind of man you're becoming and the kind of people that belong in your life.

This applies to every relationship — romantic, professional, familial, and social. The men you spend time with shape your thinking. The woman you choose shapes your home. The colleagues you work alongside shape your ambition. Choose deliberately.

And remember: you can't pour from an empty cup. The most important relationship in your life is the one you have with yourself. Get that right first. Everything else follows.
